• Motorola TLKR T7 walkie-talkies

Motorola has long been a well-known name in the walkie-talkie or two-way radio space. The Motorola TLKR T7 is aimed at those who want to stay connected in the elements, and the box is adorned with images of skiers, snowboarders, and more. Our Quick Take
With quality construction and features that some of us will never need, the T7 is a great choice for a walkie-talkie. The rugged construction and rugged finish make them ideal for use in adverse conditions, and the Motorola TLKR T7 battery performance can support a long day on the mountain.
Some may find the length a little too much, and opting for a smaller, more pocket-friendly option may be a better fit. The T7 comes with a belt clip, which is fine for a walk around the allotment or a sunny day, but we wouldn't trust it on a snowboard.
Overall, it's hard to find fault with the T7, even if for many people it has more features than you'll ever use.
Motorola TLKR T7 Walkie Talkie - 4.0 / 5 Included in the box are two phones, a dock to charge both phones, a belt clip, and a battery pack. The dock charges the phone directly when it's plugged in, but you can also choose to charge the battery pack separately, if you have more than one, for example. You can also power the phone with four standard AAA  Motorola TLKR T7 Walkie Talkie batteries, which is a good option if the worst happens. These phones aren't the smallest , but they're pretty sturdy. They measure 54x 30 x 202 (including the antenna) and are comfortable to hold in the hand, with the rubber surround providing a secure grip even in gloved or wet hands. The push-to-talk button on the left seems to fall naturally under your thumb or index finger in your gripping hand.
There's a small 1-inch LCD screen on the front, which is big enough to convey all the relevant information and let you see which channel you're on, what options you' ve selected, and so on. Below the screen are a series of control buttons that are too small to operate with gloves, but you'll most likely set these up before you go.

The phone has eight channels and 121 subcodes, which must be the same before you go. It's a complex device, though, so if the need arises, you can set up Dual Overwatch, which will cover two separate channels - perhaps as a control station for two opposing factions in a team game. Channel setting is easy, either directly through the menus, or using the scan function, which will quickly browse and pause transmitting channels. When you hit the right channel, pressing a button will exit the scan, allowing you to stay connected (at least to someone). The menus offer a range of advanced features that many people will never use, but they do make the T7 a very versatile intercom. You can set a room monitoring mode (like a baby monitor), a silent mode (with a vibrating alert), as well as a timer. There are also a range of group functions, which, while taking some getting used to, allow you to name each handset individually, which is very handy, as you can use the T7 to call other users in the group directly, as well as send messages to the entire group. Caller ID is also a real plus when working in larger groups.

You can also select hands-free operation, meaning you don't have to press a button to communicate, although you' ll need to buy an extra headset to achieve this. VOX options can then be selected in the menus, as well as setting the sensitivity level, so that it reacts to active voice signals but not to labored breathing, for example. Motorola TLKR T7 Walkie Talkie Battery life is also very impressive, with around 18 hours on the battery pack and 20 hours on the AAA batteries, so it's not only flexible but also a great performer. Where the T7 shines though is in the quality of voice transmissions, which come through loud and clear with no interference.Clever features like the roger beep to let you know the other party has finished transmitting make them easy to use and there's plenty of volume so if your phone is hidden away in a backpack pocket you can still hear it.

The T7 is rated for a range of 10km in perfect conditions, though of course this will depend a lot on terrain etc. Built up areas will reduce this significantly, so don't think about leaving your phone behind, but for outdoor group activities you should be within range.
ConclusionOverall it's hard to fault the T7, even if for many it's more than you'll ever need.
